This post focuses on fun and flirty questions for couples—dating, engaged, or newlywed—who are navigating a NEW relationship.
The Dating Divas suggest that the number one issue most couples deal with in their relationship has something to do with communication. Asking questions for new couples is an obvious way to learn more about each other and open the the pathway of communication. Hopefully you are asking many of these questions in your dating life as you try to determine who is the best fit for you.
As you move forward into a lasting marriage dynamic, Dr. Gottman, author of The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, “…has scientifically analyzed the habits of married couples. He helps couples focus on each other, on paying attention to the small day-to-day moments that, strung together, make up the heart and soul of any relationship.” Learning to ask questions of each other are some of those small day-to-day moments!
Speaking as one who has experienced a couple of decades with my husband, I can attest that life gets busy with work, children, school, church, and to-do lists. Sometimes you are left searching for conversation starters for road trips or you realize that you spent the last twenty minutes together without talking. Spice up the adventure, establish talking points, and start asking fun and flirty questions as a new couple.
Guidelines to Follow
Do you need some practical ideas or reminders to make sure the questions you ask will strengthen your relationship? Whether these are questions for married couples or newly dating couples:
- Be open.
- Care.
- Start with just one question at a time. Remember, your questions are intended to encourage deeper discussions.
- Ask open-ended questions to avoid simple yes or no answers.
- Don’t monopolize the conversation. Take turns asking questions.
- Really listen. Don’t interrupt or try to defend your position.
- Clarify.
- Listen to understand instead of trying to formulate your reply as your partner shares.
- Ask follow-up questions.
The goal in asking questions for new couples is not only to get to know each other better but also to build a deeper friendship and spice up the adventure of being together. What better way to do this than when you are exploring together? These are the perfect road trip questions for couples.

Final Thoughts on 250+ Road Trip Questions for Couples: New Couple Edition
I created a similar post to this one—originally designed with questions for ALL couples to ask—but when I printed the FREE list of questions for myself and started asking my husband, I realized that questions I would want to ask my husband after being married for over 25 years are quite different than the “get to know you” questions we would have asked as a dating or newly married couple.
What are some questions that you wish you had asked or things you wish you had known?

These questions are SO important when starting a new relationship – they have the power to end a bad one.
I would never have considered this back when we were first dating – but it’s not a bad idea.
On road trips, we tend to crank up the music, or listen to sooo many podcasts (and then have to stop them to chat through what they just said!!) I guess that is similar to this! 🙂
Wow such a great list of questions!
My bf and I did something like this when we were getting to know each other. I forget what app we used, but it generated questions for us to answer and we learned a lot about each other! It was pretty fun and definitely passes the time.
I wish I had those questions 10 years ago when I did a road trip in Ireland, Italy and USA with my husband! Love this idea!!
Great questions, many of which would be good for couples who have been together for quite a while too!
Such a fun post- I printed this post and am leaving it in the glove compartment of my car…great for traffic hold ups while road tripping!
Need to give this list to my awkward teenager who says she can’t ever come up with anything to say 🙂
I am thinking it may not be a bad idea to reset my 2 decade old marriage, by doing a road trip (sans kid) and asking atleast half of these questions. Kind of getting to know each other again.
