Chris and I recently enjoyed a week at two all-inclusive adults only resorts in Jamaica: Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay (join the Hyatt Rewards Program) and Royalton Negril Resort (join the Marriott Bonvoy Rewards Program).

Our stays were amazing! When planning your international getaway, consider staying at an all-inclusive resort.

While both resorts are not exclusively for adults, they both have sections that are ADULTS ONLY!

Discover the many reasons to love the all-inclusive Caribbean adults only resorts. If this is your first visit, you may wish to explore the common mistakes people make at an all-inclusive resort as well.

Amazing Pools and Hot Tubs

1. Pools

As you explore the resort, you’ll discover that there are a number of pools at all-inclusive Caribbean adults only resorts. You may scout out your favorite views or plan to spend a week by the pool because of the great drinks and bar service.

2. Hot Tubs

Chris and I found the hot tub closest to our building to be warm but not hot, but it was perfect with the temperatures of the Caribbean. Slipping down to the hot tub for an evening soak after dark was a great way to wind down after a busy day of relaxing by the pool!

3. Pool and Beach Wait Service

One of the perks of all-inclusive Caribbean adults only resorts is the all-inclusive drinks. Chris and I loved the fruity drinks, smoothies, soda water, diet coke and ice cold water. Friends around us enjoyed the alcohol and umbrella drinks.

Our adults only secluded section offered BBQ lunch poolside with service right to our lounge chair. Perfect! If you haven’t tried jerk chicken before—a Jamaican specialty—you are in for a treat!

4. Pool Towels Provided

Don’t worry about adding beach towels to your all-inclusive packing list. You will find towels in your room (restocked each day) as well as additional towels available pool side. Typically the room towels are white and the pool towels are colored.

BUT, be sure to bring some towel clips if you want to reserve your spot for the day AND keep your towels securely attached to your lounge chair. Towel clips also double as clothespins if you need to hang your swimsuit up to dry.

5. Lounge Chairs and Cabanas

There are a variety of lounge chairs and cabanas available throughout the resort. Now let me add that posted signage suggests that “RESERVING” lounge chairs or cabanas is against resort policy. HOWEVER, we saw it happen every morning with people adding their towels and towel clips to stake their claim.

In our section of the resort, we were even advised by other guests to reserve a lounge chair as early as possible. Like 6:00 am early.

6. Lounge Chair Umbrellas

You can see in the above picture that “umbrellas” are not available for all of the lounge chairs. If you want to have shade for any part of the day, then loungers with umbrellas are highly sought after.

Beaches and Views

7. Beautiful Beaches

The beaches at all-inclusive Caribbean adults only resorts are well maintained. As Chris and I exercised each morning, we saw workers cleaning up debris and fallen leaves. Seaweed is removed each day if it accumulates.

8. Fantastic Views and Sunsets

You can enjoy breakfast by the ocean and enjoy the views as well as the stunning sunsets for dinner. Caribbean sunsets are colorful and stunning (you may never be up early enough to see the sunrise though!)

Dining and Drinks

9. A Variety of Restaurants on Site

All-inclusive Caribbean adults only resorts offer a variety of restaurants on site. Do yourself a favor and try a new option everyday. Don’t just stick to the buffet!

10. Gourmet Offerings

The chefs are proud of their gourmet offerings from the appetizers to the entrees and the delectable desserts.

11. Buffet

The buffet can be a great option for a variety of food offerings. It makes a great place to eat if you are looking for a quick meal or snack before an excursion or have just arrived at the resort. While you could eat every meal at the buffet, be sure to take advantage of the variety of restaurants, room service, or poolside lunches.

12. All-Inclusive Drinks

Aren’t the all-inclusive drinks one of the big perks of an adults only resort that is all-inclusive? Even if you don’t drink alcohol, there are a variety of drinks available to you. One of the common mistakes people make at an all-inclusive resort is over-indulgence. Know your limits in order to enjoy all aspects of all-inclusive Caribbean adults only resorts!

Pro Tip * Be sure to drink plenty of water as well.

13. Refreshed Mini Bar

Your mini bar should be refreshed with your preferred drinks. Chris and I also appreciated the bucket of ice that appeared daily.

Pro Tip * Bring a refillable insulated water bottle to keep your drinks chilled.

Amazing Service

14. Butler Service

With Chris’ reward status with Marriott, we enjoyed the included butler service at Royalton Negril Resort.

Butler service is often a luxury at a resort and is included with certain package levels. You may feel as though you are a bother asking for extra services, but if the butler service is included in your stay, enjoy it.

What can the butler do for you?

• Stock your room fridge with specific drinks and water bottles
• Fill your ice bucket
• Make dinner reservations
• Ensure pool towels are available
• Arrange for luggage pick up
• Request a golf cart to take you to your dinner reservation
• Bring you lunch pool side
• Make a spa reservation

My all-inclusive resort tipping guideline suggests planning to tip your butler. They earn it.

15. Daily Room Cleaning

Our rooms at Royalton Negril were cleaned daily. If you need service, be sure to ask.

16. Nightly Turndown Service

Chris and I appreciated the nightly turndown service at our adults only resort in Jamaica, along with the alerts about the next day’s activities. We always found our room to be tidied at night as well.

17. Transportation via Golf Cart Around the Resort

If you have mobility limitations, enjoy transportation around the resort in a covered golf cart. Your luggage will also be delivered to you and picked up from your room on both your arrival and departure.

18. All-Inclusive Resort Tipping

Is all-inclusive resort tipping a thing?

Would you agree that tipping etiquette can often be confusing or unclear no matter where you travel? The rules are often different when staying at all-inclusive resorts.

One of the benefits of an all-inclusive resort is that gratuities are often included in the package. Guests are not expected to tip for regular services such as housekeeping or dining wait staff; HOWEVER, you may still choose to tip for exceptional service or for special requests.

This may include service that goes above and beyond, butler service, requests to book excursions, or for spa treatments. This is especially true if any of these services are in addition to what is included.

Bring $100 to $200 in small bills for tipping. In poorer countries, many of the resort staff depend on these tips to make a living wage. You may not be required to tip them, but it is often the kind thing to do.

19. Resort Cleanliness and Landscape Work

Chris and I were up early most days and we always noticed grounds keepers busy cleaning and trimming. Hotel and dining staff were conscientious about maintaining a high level of cleanliness.

20. Free In Room and Resort WiFi

We found the WiFi at both Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay and Royalton Negril Resorts to be superb. WiFi was included with our stay.

21. 24-Hour Room Service

Craving some chocolate cake at midnight, breakfast in bed, or something a little different for lunch? Room service is available. Plan ahead as it can take up to 45 minutes to arrive.

22. 24-Hour Concierge

If you have a question, need directions, or want advice about available excursions, the hotel concierge is a great resource.

23. Fitness Center

With all of the included meals and drinks, you may begin to feel a little sluggish. Scout out the fitness center.

One of the perks of the adults only resort that Chris and I enjoyed was the daily aquafit class that was held in our pool. Try something new.

24. Spa

Be pampered at the spa. Typically, spa treatment include a variety of massages, couples massage, reflexology, manicures, pedicures, and hair styling and braiding.

25. Resort Security

Prior to our trip to Jamaica, I read about the travel warning for Jamaica. It was a concern, but we did not feel any threat during our trip. Be cautious and mindful. If you are staying at a resort, don’t go off property at night. Use common sense and if something doesn’t feel right, don’t do it!

26. Fitness Classes

This is definitely not on some people’s radar when they vacation, let alone when they visit an all-inclusive resort. Chris and I know that when we visit an all-inclusive (or go on a cruise), that our schedules will be much more relaxed. We always find time to exercise to be able to enjoy relaxing all day long and probably eating more than we are used to.

Check the fitness center for hours and classes offered or plan to get in a little exercise with a fun activity such as snorkeling where you may not realize you are actually working out!

27. Daytime Activities & Theme Parties

You have the opportunity to choose how active you want to be at an all-inclusive. There are a variety of themed events, trivia games, and evening entertainment options to choose.

Check the schedule that is posted at the resort, sign up for daily emails or texts if that is an option, check the app, or read the printed daily itinerary delivered to your room.

28. Evening Entertainment

Enjoy the nightly entertainment as one of the perks of an adults only resort. You may find a variety of offerings and can pick and choose according to your interests.

29. No Kids!!!

Need I say more? For those of us with children or who don’t want to be around other people’s children as we lounge by the beach, taking a vacation to an all-inclusive caribbean ADULTS ONLY resort is a treat.

30. Excursions

While you have the option to enjoy the luxury of staying in bed all day, or relaxing in a cabana by the pool, the benefit of an all-inclusive resort is that you have options. Pick a few days to relax and unwind, but then choose to parasail or take a boat tour to snorkel, explore caves and visit Rick’s Cafe in Jamaica.

Many resorts are in areas where you can explore nature, get out of your comfort zone, visit famous attractions and enjoy excursions

Plus, this is the perfect opportunity to go beyond your comfort zone and try something new. Parasailing or paragliding anyone? Learn to snorkel, try a local delicacy, brave the crowds or even cliff dive at Rick’s Cafe! Your kids might just say, “Mom and Dad are living their best life!”

31. Unplug from Work

This is often one of the mistakes people make at an all-inclusive resort or any type of resort: you don’t disconnect from work, social media, or electronics. Embrace the time you have to spend with your special someone.

Be present in the moment! Use your phone to take pictures or videos but otherwise try to unplug from your everyday life. (Internet service may be unreliable at some international resorts, so it might just limit your phone use naturally.)

32. Make New Friends

On our recent trip to Jamaica, Chris and I enjoyed meeting so many new couples and enjoyed the laid-back vibe for mingling and making new friends.

Reach out and get to know the people around you. You will quickly get the sense of who wants to engage and who prefers a casual greeting and wishes to focus more on their partner.

33. Dress Up for Your Sweetheart

If you have ever been on a cruise, it is pretty common to have formal nights where you are encouraged to bring fancier clothing. This is one area where Chris and I did not do our research at the adults only resort in Jamaica and found we made one of the common mistakes people make at an all-inclusive: we did not plan specifically to dress up for dinner.

Some of the restaurants have a dress code of “casual elegance” or “casual”. This means no sleeveless shirts for men, no swim wear or cover ups, and something more than beach flip flops.

Do some research and add a few nicer outfits for dinner to your all-inclusive packing list. Don’t forget a spicy swimsuit for your days lounging at the beach.

34. Use Reward Points or Miles

You miss out on valuable points and perks when you don’t sign up for hotel rewards programs or frequent flyer programs. Consider Hilton, Hyatt, or Marriott for your stays and United for your flights.

If you aren’t a frequent traveler, consider a travel-related credit card that will begin to accrue points with your purchases that you can then use for booking flights and accommodations.

35. Book Your Next Trip Before You Leave

Some of the couples we met were returning guests and planned their visit specifically at this time to meet up with friends they had made in previous years. If you are offered discounts for pre-booking, give it some thought.

How many times do you pack for a beach vacation, and then once you stretch out on your beach towel think, “Man! I should have brought…”?

Fill in the blank with items such as bug spray, your underwater camera, towel clips or even a clothespin or two!

Nothing can ruin a vacation faster than a sunburn. Bring ample sunscreen and use it. You can purchase sunscreen and after-sun gel at a resort gift shop; however, a new bottle from the gift shop may be more than double the price you pay at home.
