Somewhere between folding shirts and double-checking passports, I always tuck a few notes into Chris’s suitcase before he heads out the door. It’s become our thing over the years, a habit that started small and just stuck. Short love notes don’t need to be poetic or perfectly worded. They just need to say the thing you might forget to say out loud in the rush of packing lists and boarding passes.
Whether your traveler is off on a solo work trip or you’re both headed out the door together, these 101 short love notes are ready to print and easy to tuck into a suitcase, jacket pocket, or toiletry bag. A good love note doesn’t need to be long. It just needs to show up somewhere unexpected.

When Chris traveled internationally for work, friends would ask where he was that week, and half the time I honestly didn’t know. “He’s just local this week” was my go-to joke when he stayed within the U.S.; other weeks I’d just shrug and admit I wasn’t always sure which country he was in.
Chris is a meticulous packer. Dress shirts folded just so, socks stuffed into his dress shoes to save space, packing cubes for everything else, all fit into one carry-on for a week of business meetings. On one of his multi-week trips years ago, I decided to test that system a little, not enough to mess it up, just enough to surprise him. A short love note tucked into a shirt pocket. Another folded into his dopp kit. One hidden in a rolled-up pair of socks.
He found a new one almost every day. Sometimes I numbered them so he’d know how many were still hiding. A few he didn’t find until a shorter trip weeks later, tucked somewhere I’d forgotten about. Before flying home, he gathered the notes he’d kept, snapped a photo of the collection, and shared it along with a sweet post on Facebook.

There are lots of reasons Jolayne is awesome. But this one is especially great and worth sharing, even if personal. Going on frequent business trips around the world may seem luxurious and amazing, but in truth it’s really hard missing so much of what goes on at home. Sometimes it’s a real drag. Mostly it’s just hotels, restaurants, airplanes, and offices.
On my last trip, Jo hid over a dozen notes in my luggage for me to find throughout my trip. The kids even pitched in with their own notes too. What a pick me up! It made being gone for three weeks just a bit easier.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is one of the great travel quotes for lovers?
“Travel far enough, you meet yourself” captures how much a trip together (or apart) can reveal about a relationship. Pair it with one line love notes tucked into a suitcase, and it becomes a personal reminder instead of just a quote on a wall.
Can these short love notes be sent as a text?
Absolutely. While tucking a handwritten note into luggage adds a fun surprise element, these short love notes work just as well sent as a quick text when your traveler is mid-trip and needs a smile between meetings or flights.
Which of the five Love Languages focuses on writing love notes?
Words of Affirmation is the love language most tied to written notes, though a short love note tucked somewhere unexpected also touches on Acts of Service and Receiving Gifts, since the surprise itself becomes part of the gesture.
Do guys like to receive love notes?
Yes. Most partners, regardless of gender, appreciate a small, unexpected reminder that someone’s thinking of them, especially when it shows up somewhere they weren’t expecting it.
How do I write a love note?
Keep it short, specific, and honest. A single sentence about why you love them or what you’ll miss says more than a long paragraph, and it’s easier to tuck into a pocket or suitcase pouch without them noticing until later.
Where can i find love note ideas?
Short, sweet, and easy to steal, that’s what this Just Wander More roundup is all about. From quick one-liners to slightly sassier ones, there’s a love note idea here for whatever mood (or luggage pocket) you’re working with.
